Bars and Cafes

Richmond's drinking scene has two halves. On one side, the restored warehouse districts of Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom are full of bars, pubs and live-music venues, including microbrewery-restaurants like Richbrau and the historic Tobacco Company. On the other, the post-industrial neighbourhood of Scott's Addition has been taken over in the last decade by a dense cluster of craft breweries (Ardent, The Veil, Hardywood), cideries, meaderies and small-batch distilleries — walking or cycling between half a dozen of them in an afternoon is one of the most enjoyable things to do in the city. For something more classic, the Byrd Theatre in Carytown shows old movies accompanied by a Wurlitzer organ and is a fixture of a Richmond Friday night.
