Eat @ Caine's

Eat @ Caine's is a Christiansted lunch spot that has earned genuine local loyalty for its roti and West Indian daily plates. Roti — a soft flatbread wrapped around a curried filling of chicken, goat, or chickpeas — arrived in the Virgin Islands with Trinidadian and Guyanese migrants and is now a cornerstone of the local food culture. Caine's version is generous and well-seasoned, considerably better than the tourist-facing alternatives around the waterfront.

The place is small and fills up at midday. The menu changes with what's available; conch stew and saltfish show up regularly alongside the roti. If you're on a budget or just want to eat like the island actually eats, this is the right call over the more expensive harbor-view restaurants. Cash is preferred.
