At 6,961 metres Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside the Himalaya, and its normal route is a walk rather than a technical climb — which is exactly what makes it dangerous, because it lets people get very high without the experience to know when to turn round. Aconcagua Expeditions have been running climbs on it from Mendoza for more than two decades.
They offer the full expedition, group or private, and shorter treks to Plaza de Mulas and Plaza Francia for people who want to see the south face without committing to the summit. A full ascent takes the best part of three weeks with acclimatisation, and the park requires a permit bought in Mendoza before you go.
No street address is published; the pin sits in the Aconcagua Provincial Park, where the expeditions actually run. Book by WhatsApp, well ahead — the season is December to February and the permits and mules fill up.
