Casa de Gobierno

French-style provincial government house on Plaza Belgrano

The provincial government building on the south side of Plaza Belgrano is a late nineteenth-century French Academic affair, all mansard roofs and sculpted lintels — a deliberate gesture of nation-building elegance dropped into a city that otherwise reads as Andean. It was designed by French architect Maximilian Hartmann and finished in 1907.

Visitors can enter the central courtyard during business hours and view the famous Salon Belgrano, which houses the original 1813 flag presented to the Jujuy regiment by General Belgrano. Free guided tours run on weekdays.
