Two blocks east of Plaza Belgrano, the Franciscan church and its tall bell tower sit at the head of a small plaza of their own. The pink-washed neoclassical facade, finished in the late nineteenth century, replaced a much older colonial structure on the same site. The Franciscans have been in Jujuy almost continuously since the city's founding in 1593.
Inside the church houses a small religious art collection and a quiet cloister at the side that is open to visitors. The bell tower is the most photographed in the city.
