Equipetrol is what happens when an oil-and-gas boom collides with a tropical city. The neighbourhood, between the second and third anillos to the north-west, is where Santa Cruz's middle and upper classes live, work, and go out — a grid of wide avenues lined with glass office towers, hotels, malls, and a heavy concentration of restaurants and nightclubs.
For travellers it is the easiest place to find international food, late-night cocktail bars, and the kind of clubs that stay open until the morning. The strip around Calle 4 and Calle 5 is the nightlife axis. By day there is not much to see; come for dinner and a drink, take taxis in and out.
