Artecampo sells the work of artisan associations from across the Santa Cruz lowlands — Guarayo palm weaving, Ayoreo garabatá fibre bags, Chiquitano carving and ceramics, hammocks, embroidered cotton.
What makes it worth the trip rather than the airport shop is the structure behind it: it was set up as a marketing outlet for rural women's craft groups, and the makers are the members rather than the suppliers. The work is correspondingly better and the money goes somewhere sensible.
It sits in a colonial house on Monseñor Salvatierra, a couple of blocks off the main plaza.
