Manzana Uno is the city's leading contemporary art centre, occupying a colonial block on the corner of the Plaza 24 de Septiembre. It opened in 2005 in restored 19th-century buildings around a shady inner courtyard, and now mounts a steady programme of exhibitions by Bolivian and Latin American artists — painting, photography, video, installation.
The gallery is free, the courtyard is a cool refuge in the midday heat, and the small cafe is one of the better spots on the plaza for a coffee. Even if the current show does not grab you, the architecture and the courtyard make it worth a wander through.
