The sloths near Cotoca are an unusual, informal wildlife stop east of Santa Cruz. They are usually seen in trees around the town and roadside area rather than in a conventional zoo or reserve, which makes the experience charming but also dependent on local conditions.
Go with realistic expectations and respect for the animals: observe from a distance, do not handle them, and avoid anyone encouraging close contact for photos. As a short side trip, it adds a memorable bit of lowland wildlife to a Santa Cruz itinerary.
