Iglesia La Ermita

Neo-Gothic riverbank church modelled on Cologne Cathedral

The blue-and-white neo-Gothic church on the riverbank is Cali's most photographed building. The current structure dates from 1942, rebuilt after the 1925 earthquake destroyed the colonial original; the architects took the cathedral of Cologne as their model, which explains the pointed spires that look slightly out of place under the Andean sun. Stop in to see the colonial painting of the Señor de la Caña, salvaged from the earlier church.
