The botanical garden of Marsella, perched on a hillside above the small coffee town of the same name, an hour north of Pereira. The collection emphasises native Andean plants — orchids, heliconias, palms, and tree ferns — laid out along well-graded trails through what feels half garden, half cloud forest. Howler monkeys are sometimes audible from the upper paths.
Marsella itself is one of the typical pastel-coloured pueblos of the Risaralda coffee country, with a square dominated by an unusual gothic-style church and a famously eccentric cemetery in the Jardín de los Niños style. The garden and the town together make a satisfying half-day trip.
