At the southern tip of the island the sea has carved a natural blowhole into the ironshore rock. When the waves hit right, a column of water shoots up to 15 metres into the air. The effect is most dramatic on days when the trade winds are running and the swell is up. There is a small viewing area; reef sandals are useful on the sharp coral rock.
Hoyo Soplador (Blowhole)
A story
Raizal legend holds that the blowhole marks the spot where a pirate buried treasure and the sea itself guards it — the spray erupting from below is the sea reclaiming any curious hand that reaches in.
