Ayapua Boat Museum

A 19th-century steam launch that hauled rubber up and down the Amazon

The Ayapua is a steam-powered river boat built in Scotland in 1906 and brought to the Amazon during the rubber boom. For decades it transported rubber, passengers, and cargo up and down the river between Iquitos and the Ucayali basin. The boat now sits near the Malecón as a floating museum, with the original machinery largely intact and a small display covering the rubber era.

It's a short visit — an hour at most — but adds useful context to the Iron House and the colonial architecture of Iquitos. The boat is one of the few surviving physical artifacts of the rubber economy that transformed the city between 1880 and 1920.
