A neighbourhood of Iquitos built on wooden rafts and stilts over the Amazon floodwaters, about 2 km south of the Plaza de Armas. During high water (roughly December to April) the entire district floats; in the dry season the buildings rest on mud. The Belén market on the edge of the neighbourhood sells Amazonian herbs, jungle products, and unusual foodstuffs. Easy to walk to from the centre; take care with personal belongings.
