Plaza 28 de Julio

Leafy civic square in Iquitos with a quieter local rhythm than the riverfront Plaza de Armas.

Plaza 28 de Julio is the smaller, more everyday square in central Iquitos, a few blocks from the better-known Plaza de Armas. It is not grand in the ceremonial sense, but it gives you a useful pause in a hot, noisy city: shade trees, benches, vendors, and the steady movement of people crossing between errands.

Come here when you want to see Iquitos outside its postcard riverfront. The square works best as part of a walk through the old rubber-boom core, especially in the late afternoon when the light softens and the surrounding streets begin to fill again after the worst heat of the day.
