A small jungle lake 14 km south of Iquitos, reachable by mototaxi or shared taxi. The lake has a beach, a small zoo with Amazonian animals (manatees, caimans, monkeys, paiche fish), and a waterpark popular with Iquiteños at weekends. It's not a destination for serious nature travel but makes a pleasant half-day, particularly on a weekend when local families are out.
The surrounding forest can be explored on foot along a trail that circles part of the lake. The paiche — an enormous Amazonian fish that can reach 3 metres in length and is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world — is visible in the breeding tanks at the zoo.
