Casa de Fructuoso Rivera is the former home of Uruguay's first president, now a museum on the country's political history. The building gives a domestic, human scale to the early republic, which can otherwise feel abstract in the plazas and monuments of Ciudad Vieja.
It works well as part of a slow walk through the old city, between Mercado del Puerto, the cathedral, and Montevideo's smaller museums.
