Casa de Lavalleja is the former house of Juan Antonio Lavalleja, one of the leaders of the Thirty-Three Orientals who fought for Uruguayan independence from Brazil in the 1820s. It now forms part of the National History Museum.
The house is a useful stop in Ciudad Vieja for visitors interested in Uruguay's independence period and the people behind the country's early national story.
