Bararida is Barquisimeto's main green space — part zoo, part botanical garden, set across a stretch of woodland on the north side of the city. The zoo holds a mix of South American species (capybaras, jaguars, tapirs, several monkey species) alongside lions, elephants, and a slightly tired-looking collection of birds. It is a city zoo of its era rather than a modern wildlife park, and conditions for some animals are visibly modest.
The botanical side is the more rewarding visit: shaded paths through native dry-forest vegetation, big ceiba trees, and small lakes with turtles. Weekends are busy with families; come on a weekday morning if you want it quieter.
