Blida is a city of about 350,000 people in northern Algeria, 45 km southwest of Algiers in the foothills of the Tell Atlas mountains. Known as the City of Roses for the flowers grown in its surrounding orchards and gardens, Blida sits at the edge of the Mitidja plain and is the gateway to the Chrea National Park in the Atlas above. The city's Ottoman-era history is reflected in a few old mosques and the central square. It is primarily visited as a base for the mountains rather than as a destination in itself.
