Bars and Cafes

Limbe's bar scene is simple and enjoyable. On weekdays the town is quiet enough that a cold beer at a waterfront terrace is a genuinely peaceful experience. At weekends, when Douala arrives en masse, the beach bars near Mile Six come alive: music up, coolers full, and a crowd that is there to have a good time. The beers of choice are Castel and 33 Export, both widely available and reliably cold; local palm wine is worth trying if you can find someone selling it fresh. There are no cocktail bars and no nightclubs to speak of — Limbe's drinking is outdoor, unpretentious, and ends when people feel like going home.
