Limbe's food scene is modest but satisfying, built around what the sea and the surrounding farmland provide. Grilled fish — tilapia, barracuda, and whatever came in that morning — is the default meal at most beachside spots, served with fried plantains and a sauce of your choosing. Ndolé, the bitter-leaf and peanut stew that is as close to a national dish as Cameroon has, appears on most menus and is best eaten somewhere that makes it from scratch. The waterfront hotels tend to offer slightly more varied menus at slightly higher prices; the rougher beach shacks near Mile Six are cheaper and often better for fish. At weekends the whole scene is busier, noisier, and more entertaining.
