Antoinette Tubman Stadium

Antoinette Tubman Stadium is the main football venue in Monrovia and the home ground of the Liberian national team and several of the country's top clubs. Matches here attract large, passionate crowds — Liberian football culture is intense, and domestic league games are genuinely atmospheric.

The stadium was built in the 1960s and has been through both civil wars without being destroyed, though it suffered some damage. Attending a national team match or a Lone Star FC game is one of the more immersive experiences available in the city — check local news for the match schedule on arrival.

A story
The stadium is named after Antoinette Tubman, wife of President William Tubman, who was for decades the most prominent philanthropist in the country. Football (soccer) is Liberia's national passion, and the stadium was the home ground for the era when George Weah — later FIFA World Player of the Year and eventually President of Liberia — began his career with the youth teams of Monrovia's clubs.
