Waterside Market is the commercial heart of Monrovia — a vast, dense, noisy warren of stalls on the edge of the old city, selling everything from mobile phone components to dried fish, imported fabrics to fresh produce. It spreads across the waterfront area and down toward the river, with permanent stalls, temporary tables, and wandering vendors all occupying every available space.
The market is genuinely lively and worth an hour of wandering if you have your bearings. The fabric section is particularly impressive — West African prints, Liberian lappas, and imported synthetics packed into stalls barely bigger than closets. Money changers, food vendors, and mechanics occupy the surrounding streets. Go in the morning when it is busiest and the light is good for photography.
