Phare des Mamelles stands on one of Dakar's twin volcanic hills, giving a broad Atlantic view over the western edge of the city. The lighthouse is a useful landmark as well as a viewpoint, especially near sunset when the coast and city lights begin to separate.
Access and opening arrangements can change, so check before assuming you can go up. Even from outside, the Mamelles area combines well with the African Renaissance Monument and the beaches and restaurants of Les Almadies.
