The Sea Point Pavilion is a complex of four heated outdoor saltwater pools on the Atlantic seafront, including a 50-metre Olympic-size lap pool and a children's pool. It dates from the early twentieth century and has been a Cape Town summer institution for generations of locals.
The water comes straight from the Atlantic, filtered and heated. On a hot summer day the pavilion fills with families from across the city, in a properly democratic mix that is rare in Cape Town's public spaces. Cheap entry, basic changing rooms, and an unbeatable view of Lion's Head behind you.
