Woodstock

Gentrified industrial neighbourhood known for street art and design studios

Woodstock is a working-class neighbourhood to the east of the city centre that has gone through a slow gentrification over the past two decades. Old warehouses now house design studios, the Old Biscuit Mill complex (home to the Saturday Neighbourgoods Market), galleries and a thick concentration of restaurants — many of the city's most ambitious kitchens are based here.

The neighbourhood is also one of the best places in Cape Town to see street art, with murals on most blank walls along Lower Main Road and the side streets off Albert Road. The gentrification has been controversial, with longstanding residents priced out, and the neighbourhood retains a frayed-edge character that is part of its draw.
