Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden is a large family-oriented park south of Haikou, combining tropical planting with animal areas and safari-style sections. It is not the island's wildest nature experience, but it gives an easy introduction to Hainan's humid vegetation and a break from the city.
The park makes most sense for travelers with children or anyone short on time who still wants greenery, shade, and wildlife in one controlled place. Go early in hot weather, as the distances inside the grounds can feel longer than they look on a map.
