Jinmu Cape

The southernmost point of the Chinese mainland, with cliffs and a lighthouse

Jinmu Cape juts out into the South China Sea south of central Sanya, and is the southernmost point of the Chinese mainland — Hainan Island included. The cape is a low, scrub-covered headland with red-and-white striped Jinmu Cape Lighthouse at the tip and the South China Sea opening out from the cliffs below.

The cape is part of an active naval area so access is sometimes restricted, but a viewing platform near the lighthouse gives a clear view of the open ocean and the navy ships moored at Yulin to the east. Combined with the nearby Luhuitou Park and Dadonghai, it makes a worthwhile half-day loop on the southern side of the city. There is no direct public transport — easiest is to take a taxi from Dadonghai or Sanya Bay.
