Bavikonda is one of the Buddhist sites scattered along the coast north of Visakhapatnam, and it has a quieter, more exposed feel than the city's beach sights. The name means "hill of wells", and the excavated complex includes stupas, brick foundations, and rock-cut water storage that speak to a monastic settlement using the ridge long before modern Vizag grew below it.
The site works best if you pair it with Thotlakonda or Rushikonda rather than treating it as a stand-alone outing. Shade and interpretation can be limited, so come early, carry water, and give yourself time to look at the layout rather than expecting a polished museum experience.
