Rushikonda Beach, about 8 km north of the city centre, is the best beach in Visakhapatnam for swimming — cleaner than RK Beach, with gentler currents, golden sand, and green hills running down to the waterline. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) runs a resort complex on the headland above the beach that rents out watersports equipment: kayaks, windsurfers, and banana boats.
The beach is busiest on Sunday mornings when the joggers and early swimmers arrive from the city. By midday it fills with families and picnickers. The small restaurants along the approach road serve good fish and prawn dishes; the seafood here is fresh from the harbour. Rushikonda is within easy reach by autorickshaw from the city centre, or by the APSRTC beach road bus service.
