Kailasagiri Hill Park

Kailasagiri is a hilltop park on the northern headland of Visakhapatnam, accessible by road or by a ropeway cable car that climbs from the base near the beach. At the top, the views are the thing: on a clear day you can see the entire arc of coastline from RK Beach to Rushikonda, with the Eastern Ghats rising inland and the Bay of Bengal spreading east. The giant Shiva and Parvati statues are the obvious focal point, but the hilltop garden and the viewpoints around the rim are worth walking.

The ropeway is the most memorable way up — it rises quickly from the busy road below into surprising quiet. The park itself fills with families on weekends; arrive early on a weekday for the best light and the least noise. There's a small toy train circuit for children and several snack stalls near the cable car base.

A story
The giant Shiva and Parvati statues at the summit of Kailasagiri are visible from several kilometres away — the Shiva stands 12 metres tall, the Parvati slightly smaller. They were installed in 2001 and have since become one of the most photographed landmarks in Vizag, featuring on every local tourism brochure alongside the submarine museum and RK Beach.
