Agashiye

Rooftop Gujarati thali in a heritage hotel

Address House of MG, opposite Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, Lal Darwaja

Agashiye occupies the rooftop terraces of the House of MG, a beautifully restored 19th-century merchant mansion at Lal Darwaja in the old city. The set Gujarati thali — different every day, drawn from a menu of about 50 traditional Gujarati dishes — is served on silverware under a vine canopy as the sun sets over the city. The thali starts with sweet dishes, the way Gujaratis traditionally eat it, and continues through about a dozen small bowls.

Booking essential; lunch and dinner sittings. The hotel below the restaurant is also one of the city's best heritage stays.
