Kalika Mata Temple

Patan's main Hindu shrine to the goddess Kalika sits in the old town and is busiest during the Navratri festival in October, when it becomes a focal point for nine nights of dancing and devotion. The temple is otherwise a modest brick-and-marble structure but is one of the oldest continuously active places of worship in the town, with origins traced back to the Solanki period.

Pop in for ten minutes if you happen to be walking the old quarter — it is a working temple, not a tourist site, and gives a glimpse of daily devotional life in a small Gujarati town. Remove shoes at the entrance.
