Shanti Stupa

Japanese-built white stupa with sweeping sunset views over Leh

Address Changspa, Leh, Ladakh

The Shanti Stupa stands on a ridge above the tourist village of Changspa, about a kilometre from the town centre. Built in the 1980s by a Japanese Buddhist order, it is decorated with colourful painted reliefs depicting the life of the Buddha and enshrines large gilded statues. The location gives outstanding views over Leh and the Indus Valley, and the stupa is a particularly popular spot at sunset.
