Stok La is one of the classic high passes reached from the Leh side of Ladakh, usually as part of a trek rather than a casual day walk. The climb moves quickly from dry villages and barley fields into bare, wind-scoured slopes, with views back toward the Indus valley and the Stok range.
Treat it as a serious mountain outing. Altitude, weather, and route-finding matter here, and most travellers will be happier going with a local guide or as part of a longer Markha Valley itinerary. On a clear day the pass gives the kind of huge, stony Ladakhi horizon that makes the effort worthwhile.
