The Stok Gompa hike is a manageable way to get a taste of Ladakh's dry valleys and monastery landscapes without committing to a high-pass trek. Starting from the Stok side of the Indus Valley, it gives views of bare slopes, village fields, and the mountains that frame Leh.
Take the altitude seriously even if the distance looks modest. Go slowly, carry water and sun protection, and ask locally about route conditions before setting off, as paths and access can change with weather and village use.
