Raja's Seat is a small terraced garden on the western edge of Madikeri, where the ground drops away into a sea of forested hills. The Kodava rulers reputedly came here to watch the sun set behind the Western Ghats — the same view is still the main attraction, framed by manicured flower beds and a stubby brick pavilion.
It can be crowded on weekend evenings, and there is a slightly tacky toy train running along the edge of the garden. Come earlier in the day if you want the view to yourself. There is a small entry fee.
