Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple stands near the Krishna Raja Sagara reservoir north of Mysore, a temple with an unusual second life. The original village and shrine were submerged when the dam was built; decades later, the temple was painstakingly dismantled, moved, and reconstructed stone by stone on higher ground.
The result is a graceful Hoysala-style temple in a wide, open lakeside setting. It is especially atmospheric in the late afternoon, when the carved stone catches warm light and the reservoir spreads out behind it. The site works well as a detour from the Brindavan Gardens or a longer drive through the countryside around Srirangapatna.
