Kihim is about 10 km north of Alibaug and quieter than the main town beach. The sand is wider, the palm fringe is denser, and there is good birding in the wooded scrub behind the dunes — Salim Ali, the great Indian ornithologist, lived here for years and the area is named in some birding guides as Salim Ali's birding grounds.
A handful of small guesthouses and seafood shacks line the road behind the beach. Sundays still get busy in season, but most weekdays are empty.
