The Kalaram Temple is the most important temple in Nashik's Panchavati quarter, dedicated to Lord Rama and believed to stand on the site where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived during their forest exile. The temple is built from black basalt and is notable for its finely carved exterior and its position at the centre of the holy Panchavati area.
The name "Kalaram" comes from the black stone idol of Rama inside the main sanctum. The surrounding complex includes several smaller shrines, and the approach through the streets of Panchavati is itself part of the experience — pilgrims, flower sellers, and the smell of incense from dozens of smaller roadside shrines.
