Ganga Ghats

The bathing ghats along the Bhagirathi (called the Ganga by pilgrims here, as is the custom in Bengal for any branch of the river) are the morning gathering place of the town. Pilgrims bathe at first light, pujaris tie sacred threads, vendors sell flower garlands and ghee lamps to set adrift on the current.

The main ghat south of the Mahaprabhu Mandir is the busiest. From here you can take a naukabihar — a small wooden boat — across to Mayapur for around ₹20, the standard local way to reach the ISKCON complex on the far bank.
