The vast ISKCON complex on the eastern bank of the Bhagirathi, opposite Nabadwip and a short boat ride across. Founded as the global headquarters of the Hare Krishna movement on the site identified by 19th-century Vaishnava reformers as Chaitanya's birthplace — a claim disputed by Nabadwip locals, who hold their own town to be the real birthplace.
The compound is huge: a central temple, dozens of guesthouses and dormitories, schools, an organic farm, an exhibition centre, and the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium — the largest religious building under construction in the world. Free to visit; prasad lunch is served in the international canteen for under ₹100.
