Tirta Empul is one of Bali's most important water temples, built around holy springs at Tampaksiring north of Ubud. The central purification pools are the focus, with worshippers moving through the fountains in a ritual sequence that is both public and deeply personal.
Visitors can take part only with care and proper guidance. Even if you stay dry, Tirta Empul is worth the trip for its architecture, flowing water, offerings, and the chance to see Balinese Hindu practice as something alive rather than staged for tourists.
