Braga Permai

1923 Dutch-era cafe-restaurant with Indo-European menu and street terrace

Braga Permai opened in 1923 as the Maison Bogerijen, a Dutch-Indonesian cafe-confectionery and the most fashionable address on Braga Street. The brand changed hands and names several times during the 20th century but the original location, marble-tiled floor, and most of the menu format survived. Sit on the terrace facing Braga Street to watch the city go by.

The menu is a long Indo-European mix: bitterballen, beef croquettes, biefstuk with fries, Sundanese rice plates, and a famous list of ice creams in tall glass coupes. Service is old-fashioned, prices are moderate by Bandung standards. Best on a weekday afternoon when the terrace is quiet.
