Factory outlet shopping is Bandung's main commercial draw for visitors from Jakarta and beyond. The city has dozens of outlets selling discounted clothing, leather goods, and accessories — many are genuine overruns from export factories, others are locally made. The best concentration is along Jalan Riau (now officially Jalan L.L. RE Martadinata) in the southern part of the city, where several large outlets sit in converted Dutch villas. Jalan Cihampelas is another hub, lined with denim shops whose buildings compete in architectural absurdity.
For something more interesting, the area around Jalan Trunojoyo has independent boutiques selling locally designed clothing and accessories. Bandung's creative scene produces genuinely original work, and prices are well below Jakarta equivalents.
