St Peter's Cathedral

1920s neo-Gothic cathedral by Charles Wolff Schoemaker

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of St Peter (Katedral Santo Petrus) was designed by Charles Wolff Schoemaker — the same architect responsible for Villa Isola — and consecrated in 1922. The neo-Gothic style is unusual for tropical Indonesia: pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and an asymmetric facade with a single tall bell tower. Inside, the stained glass windows above the altar are worth a look.

The cathedral fronts a small triangular park, the Taman Maluku, and is across from the city's Cathedral of the Church of England-affiliated Bethel congregation, making this small block of central Bandung a curious cluster of early 20th-century religious architecture.
