Getting There

Malang's Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (MLG) has domestic flights to Jakarta (multiple daily, about 1.5 hours), Bali, and other Indonesian cities on Garuda, Lion Air, and Batik Air. The airport is about 15 km northeast of the city centre.

By train, Malang is connected to Surabaya (2 hours, several daily), Yogyakarta (6-7 hours), and Jakarta (12-16 hours overnight). The train station (Malang Kotabaru) is central and easy to use. Indonesian trains are comfortable and punctual — book seats in advance on the KAI website or app.

By bus, Malang is served from all major Javanese cities. The Arjosari terminal on the northern edge of the city handles long-distance buses; within Malang, angkot (shared minibuses) and ojek (motorcycle taxis via Gojek or Grab) cover the city.
