The 99 Domes Mosque is Makassar's boldest new landmark, a colourful waterfront mosque whose clustered domes make it instantly recognisable from Losari Beach. It is modern, theatrical, and very much part of the city's attempt to turn the seafront into a civic promenade.
Visit outside prayer times if you mainly want to admire the architecture and setting. The mosque is especially photogenic around sunset, when families and food vendors gather along the waterfront and the domes catch the changing light.
