Elahieh is the wealthiest district of northern Tehran — tree-lined streets, high-walled garden villas, and an overlay of embassies and international businesses. It is where Tehran's café culture is most developed, with independent coffee shops that would not look out of place in Istanbul or London, and where the dress code and social codes are slightly more relaxed than in other parts of the city.
For visitors, Elahieh is primarily useful as a base or dining district — the restaurants here range from excellent traditional Persian food to international options. The streets around Fereshteh and Jordan Avenue have the highest concentration of good places to eat and the most pleasant walking. It connects via the upper metro line and taxis to both Tajrish and the central cultural sights.
